Vocational Courses

General Information:Vocational Training’s awards are Certificates, Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas and can be obtained from TAFEs (Public Business Schools), Universities and Private Business Colleges.

Commencement dates and duration: Commencement dates vary from provider to provider and can be from every month to twice per year. Certificate level courses can run from 3 months to 1 year in duration, Diploma level courses from 1 to 2 years, and Advanced Diplomas from 1 to 3 years duration of study.

Entry requirements:

– Students wishing to enrol in vocational training need to have successfully completed Senior high school (Year 12) to be accepted for a Diplomas or Advanced Diploma, or, students may be accepted at Certificate level first and then progress to Diploma level studies.
– To study a vocational course students require an English level equivalent or superior to Upper Intermediate or IELTS 5.5 overall. Business Colleges are often more flexible than TAFE and a final English certificate from your Language school is generally sufficient. University Courses

Australia is home to 38 public universities and two private universitiesBond University and the University of Notre Dame. Among these, the Group of Eight (Go8) universities are internationally renowned for their excellence in research and education. These prestigious institutions include:

General Information

In Australia the university study year is divided in 2 semesters lasting approximately 20 weeks each. A full-time student will generally be required to study 4 subjects per semester, with each subject including approximately 3 face to face contact hours per week. Each subject is worth a certain number of credits, from 4 to 12 credits maximum, with the higher the credits, the harder and the more important the subject. It is also worth noting that students can finish their degree earlier if they enrol in a summer school programme between December and January of each year.

Undergraduate University Study – There are two types of Australian Bachelor Degree:

1) Bachelor Degree – Bachelor Degree’s have a duration of between 3 to 5 year to complete depending on the particular course / career. It is worth noting that an increasing number of Australian universities are now offering Combined Degrees which allow you to graduate in two different fields. The study duration of these courses is generally from 4 to 5 years.

2) Honours Degree – The second type of undergraduate university study is an Honours Degree which is generally one year of competitive study on top of a Bachelor Degree, with a requirement to complete a thesis.

Commencement dates and duration: Entry is generally 2 times per year and duration can vary from 3 to 5 years.

Entry requirements:

Certificate equivalent to the Australian Year 12 (Warning: you must have a minimum General Points Average (GPA) to be accepted in bachelor degree, depending on the selected career. If your results are insufficient, you will have to apply for Foundation Study);

Also required is a Level of English equivalent or superior to IELTS 6.0 or 6.5 overall Academic Training (minimum IELTS 6.0 in writing) or TOEFL 210 computer based (minimum 4 essay rating). Some faculties require IELTS 7.0 overall (minimum IELTS 7.0 in writing)

Award recognition: all Australian Bachelor degrees should be recognized internationally.

Postgraduate University Study in Australia can be divided into four parts.

1) Graduate Certificate: A Graduate Certificate may take approximately 6 months in duration to complete and may be awarded as, or credited to, the first semester of a Masters Degree.

2) Graduate Diploma: A Graduate Diploma has a duration of approximately 1 year to complete and as with the Graduate Certificate qualification, may be credited towards a Masters Degree, counting for 2 semesters.

3) Masters: A Masters Degree has two types. Firstly, there is a Coursework Masters Coursework, which lasts between 1 and 2 years, and secondly, a Research Masters Research, which lasts a minimum of 2 years full time research. Entry to a Research Masters is highly competitive.

4) Post Honoured Degree (PHD): A PHD qualification has a duration of approximately 3 years and is offered on a full time basis only. PhD programs have specific and rigorous entry requirements, which vary depending on the university and field of study.

Commencement dates and duration: Entry is generally 2 times per year and duration can vary from 3 to 5 years.

Entry requirements:

  • Entry to the above postgraduate qualification courses generally require an equivalent to a Bachelor Degree in your country country of origin, with or without any related work experience, OR at least over 6 years of related work experience.
  • Also required is a level of English equivalent or superior to IELTS 6.5 overall Academic Training (minimum IELTS 6.0 in writing) or TOEFL 237 computer based (minimum 4.5 essay rating); Some faculties require IELTS 7.0 overall (minimum IELTS 7.0 in writing)

Primary and High School Studies

General Information

Schooling in Australia starts with a kindergarten or preparatory year followed by 12 years of primary and secondary school. In the final year of secondary school, Year 12, you can study for a government-endorsed certificate that is recognised by all Australian universities and vocational education and training institutions. This Senior Secondary Certificate of Education is also recognised by many international universities.

Australia has a national curriculum framework to ensure high academic standards across the country. All schools provide subjects in the eight key learning areas: English, mathematics, studies of the society and the environment, science, arts, Languages Other Than English, technology, and personal development, health and physical education. Schools have English language programs for international students to support their studies.

At secondary school level, choice and diversity are increased as schools are able to offer a wide range of subjects, delivered by highly trained and experienced teachers, and using state-of-the-art technology including the Internet, multimedia equipment and laboratories.

The school year is divided into four terms and runs from late January/early February until December. There is a short holiday between terms and a long summer holiday in December and January.

Students attend school from Monday to Friday each week. School hours vary slightly across Australia but are generally from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm each school day.

Entry requirements– A level of English equivalent or superior to IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 197 or the Certificate of an English for High School Preparation programme. Students who don’t have a sufficient level of English will have to enrol in an English for High School Preparation course
– An accepted translation into English of all final results obtain in your country of origin of the previous school year
– Please note that Year 11 and 12 are part of an integrated programme and it is difficult or international students to enter year 12 without having completed year 11 in Australia. Note: There are 24 government and non-government schools in Australia offering the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) Only schools officially approved by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) are authorised to offer the two-year pre-university curriculum for students aged between 16 and 19 years of age. Many students within and outside of Australia take the IB Diploma for admission to leading universities in the Asia-Pacific region. However, students considering a vocational career path should discuss their options with the school.

English Language Studies

1.General English courses

include the practice of all skills (reading, grammar, writing, speaking, listening, & pronunciation) and are offered at all levels from beginners to advanced students. Students can also combine English study with other activities, for example, General English and Sports, General English and TOEIC/Business English. General English courses can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis.

Commencement dates and duration: General English courses commence each Monday and can run from between 1 to 52 weeks in duration.

Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements in order to undertake a general English course, however an entry test on the first day of study is required.

2. Academic English/IELTS Preparation courses

prepare students for studies in vocational training or in universities in Australia with the curriculum strongly focused toward the skills you will need for post-secondary studies, eg: essay writings, academic reports, presentations, listening, reading etc. These courses are focused on helping you successfully achieving or obtaining the required IELTS scores for entry to university study (IELTS 6.5 overall) and general training for all vocational training (IELTS 5.5 overall).

Entry requirements: The entry requirements for academic English/IELTS Preparation courses is a minimum of intermediate level English.

3. The Direct Entry programme

is only offered by the University language centres and is for students applying for Bachelor or Master degrees. Please note that if you successfully complete this programme, you won’t need to take the official English exams of IELTS or TOEFL.

Commencement dates and duration: Courses commence every 5 to 10 weeks and and run for a minimum of 10 weeks in duration.

Entry requirements: The entry requirements for the Direct Entry Programme is an IELTS score of 5.5 (IELTS 6.0 minimum in writing) or an academic level of English officially recognized by the provider offering the programme

4. Cambridge Exams Preparations

Four different exams are commonly offered in Australia. They are the Certificate of English (FCE), the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), the Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE); and Business English Certificates (BEC) 1, 2, 3.

5. Package English and Specialisation

This programme is ideal for students who wish to spend one year or more in Australia and improve their English skills and consists of 10 weeks of intensive English as well as 6 month training in an area of your choice (for example: Business/ Marketing/ Retail Management/ Tourism/Graphic Design/Hospitality Management/Information Technology). In completing this course you may obtain 2 qualifications for the cost of only one enrolment fee and a student visa.

Commencement dates and duration: Courses generally run monthly, depending upon the individual provider, and can take a minimum of 9 months to complete.

Entry requirements: The entry requirements for these courses are pre-intermediate English skills.

6. English for High School Preparation courses

prepares students who are between 12 and 18 years old for the academic programme offered by the Australian high schools. The curriculums includes general Science, Mathematics, Economics, Geography and Sport.

Entry requirements: The entry requirements for this course is intermediate English skills.
